Children and teenagers should not be allowed to use social media until they are 18 yrs old
As I live up to the quote, "coming events cast their shadows before", every child needs to be nurtured and cared for properly and the upbringing shows the behavioral change in the child. Due to the impact of volatile space on the internet, some believe it is not safe for children to use social media. I totally agree with the statement that children below 18 yrs of age should not be allowed to use social media. I feel this way for two reasons which are explained in the following essay. First of all, the content in social media is more hazardous if it is not utilized properly. If there is no guidance for a child to use this then eventually, the child can get exposed to the bad content of the internet and we are definitely not new to these kinds of news. There are many examples of catfishing, sexual content and scams which are frequently heard in the news. Consequently, if there is any lack of guidance then the child can face severe problems using social media. Thus it is better for children and teenagers to stay away from social media and focus on their academic platforms. I have to admit that my own experience has profoundly influenced this matter, when I was pursuing my Bachelor's degree, I did not engage in famous social media such as Instagram, Snapchat and many more; that definitely helped me to score a good CGPA on each semester. On top of that, my friends used to tease me for living under the rocks but seeing down the line now I am more independent and successful than them. I am sure that if I had used social media during my teens, then I would not be as successful and happy as I am today. Secondly, there is no brainer that social media has a profound impact on our society. Keeping that in mind, some parents feel free to hand over their phones to their children which leads them to involve in social media. When a child is in their puberty then their hormones are in rage. Ultimately, there is more pressure for the child to post good pictures on Instagram, maintain streaks on Snapchat, and put quality reels in TikTok, so these are the unnecessary pressure that someone in their adolescence can face. Furthermore, the student can divert their focus from their academic growth to the persona that they present on the internet. Obviously, that would be difficult to keep up with the image and the pressure. For instance, I do have a cousin who is 12 yrs of age and she is famous for TikTok. Whenever I see her, she is always on the phone with her tripod making videos and keeping up with the trend. Likewise, she usually promotes the brands and pressures herself to get more views. So, I can say that it is a lot for someone of 12 yrs can go through. Certainly, if she would continue to follow this behavioral pattern then the future might not be as bright as the diamonds. In a nutshell, I am of the opinion that children and teenagers should not be allowed to use social media until they are 18 yrs of age. This is because of the time they involve themselves in social media instead of using it for something productive and for the undeniable stress that they face in portraying the image on social media.
