Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Governments should spend more money in support of the arts than in support of athletics such as state-sponsored Olympic teams. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

During the history, governments have always been entertaining the idea of establishing industries of entertainments. On this account, many claim that art is a more fertile area for investment but I disagree for two main reasons and I will explore them in what follows. To begin with, it is axiomatic that one of the most important long term goals of governments is to minimize the medical costs of citizens and to maximize the general health of people. In this line of thought, both physical and psychological health matters and nearly all the experts concur that sports improve human beings health. To put it clearly, governments can encourage people to engage in various fields of sports by raising its investment in this area and a long term consequence of this project is a rise in general health. Moreover, people strengthen their relationships and develop new communications while participating in the team activities such as football, water polo, basketball to name but a few. A personal experience is a compelling illustration of my point: Four years ago, I started to exercise regularly and practice handball at a gym. I remember that I made several new friends, lost my extra weight as well and I was generally a happier person. In contrast, it seems that art industry does not have the potential to engender the mentioned benefits. Furthermore, as is obvious to anyone, governments should run projects that are economically efficient. I believe in the more spent money in support of sportsmen, including providing them with high quality facilities and raised salaries to name but a few, the more income for the government. To elucidate the notion, should the country be successful in Olympic tournaments, a hotbed for a prosperous economy would be prepared. In this case, a lot of international sport companies are ready to invest in your country or accept the sponsorship of your teams! However, I personally think that artistic activities are not economically highly beneficial. In conclusion, I strongly disagree with the idea of investing more to support the arts for two significant reasons: it does not lead to an increase in the people's physical and psychological health, plus it is does not improve the economic climate of the country
