Question :Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? People today spend too much time on personal enjoyment—doing things they like to do rather than doing things they should do.
It is undeniable to say that balancing personal life and work is difficult. There is no perfect recipe or guide on how to balance the different aspects of life, different people will have different objectives and, consequently, will have different definitions of balance. The problem is that until people find their balance, they will encounter some unexpected problems that may have a long-term impact on their lives. It is not impossible to find a healthy harmony between different aspects of life, however, this is a process that everyone experiences in a different manner.
First and foremost, having balance means that you don’t focus solely on a single aspect of your life. For instance, people who focus solely on their job become “workaholics”, this can lead to health and mental issues due to the lack of self-care. Consequently, this can reduce their life expectancy and make them feel miserable, in the long run, these people may regret their decision. This is just an example, however, people who focus on a single aspect of their life and ignore others will often regret their decision. It is important to remember our individuality and always take into account that we are not just mere workers, or just parents, we can be both and more at the same time.
However, this view of the world raises an important problem, work is also an important part of life and without it, life would be harder. Work itself is not something bad, it can be seen as a basic necessity and also as a way to give a sense of purpose to our lives, however, work becomes something undesirable when it becomes an exploitative activity. This can be seen as a structural problem in our society caused by predatory capitalism and the truth is that we, as individuals can not do anything effective to change it. The only thing we can do is complain and ask for better laws that ensure that no one should have to work more than 8 hours to survive.
To conclude, it should be pointed out that many people can’t find a balance in their lives between work and other aspects, and this is not entirely their fault. In many ways, society has led us to believe that work is the only important thing in life. The only thing we can do is value ourselves and our time, and never forget that life is not limited to a job, many things make it worth living.
