Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? It is more important for students to understand ideas and concepts than it is for them to learn facts. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
Students are one of the bases of any society undoubtedly. Controversy exists over whether students should learn facts or perceive concepts. From my vantage point, students should prefer understanding the meanings because not only can they autonomously draw on facts, but also they can avoid the lack of creativity that studying facts may impose on them.
To begin with, students can derive facts by profound comprehension of taught concepts. That is to say, if the learners try to figure out the meanings comprehensively, they also can individually and independently establish new facts that assist other researchers in the way of conducting research and advancement of science. My personal experience is a compelling illustration of this. When I worked on my bachelor's thesis, I found a new composition for the tires in order to decrease the fuel consumption of vehicles. I comprehended the concept of this novel method by one of the co-researchers in our research group who previously worked in the same field. Eventually, I could conduct my thesis research and get desirable results based on the observations which another researcher had earlier.
Second, narrowing minds to learn facts only can lead to a lack of ingenuity. In other words, modern problems require modern solutions. This means if students' minds get used to absorbing facts, their mind does not prepare for devising new means to solve modern problems—especially unexpected ones. For instance, imagine a society with abundant scientists and engineers who learned downright through facts that had been demonstrated earlier. this society obviously can not overcome new obstacles because its members lose their creative mindsets.
In a nutshell, I firmly believe that students should educate via a deep perception of ideas. this is because it can bring about new facts which help society in numerous ways. In addition, it keeps people's minds productive and effective.
