Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? When teachers assign projects on which students must work together, the students learn much more effectively than when they are asked to work alone on projects. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
Even though some students opt for working as a group, I prefer working alone on projects. In the following essay, I will analyze that situation from two perspectives.
First of all, time management is crucial for students especially several lectures has deadlines in consequtive days. While working on a project, freedom of choosing optimum time to do given task becomes vital. In group works students need to arrange common time slot for each student and if the group is crowded, some stundents may sacrifice some of their duties to arrange time. Thus, finding a common time for each student may not be convenient. Also, although popularity of online meetings have been skyrocketing these days, people may need to be prepared for the meetings and that situation consumes time. For example, last semester I did group project. However, since me and my teammates can not find available time slot due to our other assignments, project turned out to be an independent work of us.
Secondly, since each student might choose his/her friend for group formation, group meetings can change its focus to a leisure time activity. Even if the abovementioned time arrangement problem is solved, efficiency of the meetings might be low due to chat or gossips between friends. If students couldn't sustain their focus on the project, the productivity of the group might even less than the individual members. That situation most probably leads to low yield at the end of the project. To illustrate, two year ago, at the time when corona outbreak started, we did an project with 4 people. Although we started well at the beginning, the meetings turns to a chat time among us or we discussed other lectures that we were taking together. At the end, we couldn't finish the project and got low grades. If we would have worked seperately, we had gotten the higher grades than we did.
To conclude, since time arrangement between group members and maintaining focus on the assingment is not easy task for students, working alone might be superior than working as a group.
