Some parents forbid young children from owning smartphones (cell phones with Internet access), while others disagree and believe that they are important tools for keeping in touch. Which point of view do you think is better, and why?

I feel like parents should not allow their children to use cell phones at such young and critical ages for several motives. I will further discuss my reason in the following parts of the essay. First of all, our era is not innocent like the old times. Now people are crueler and more thoughtless. Therefore, having access to the internet at those ages can create pressure on children. They can easily be manipulated and bullied on social media by anonymous people who want to harm them. Moreover, bad intentionally people can steal their money by tricking them. When I was a young child, I remember that I installed a farming game without telling my parents. It was seeming like a child’s game, but after a while, it required money to get to the next level. The price that the application wanted was a very modest amount and I entered my mom’s credit card information to be able to continue the game. However, they got a lot more than the indicated price. Hence, my parent got really mad and forbid my cell phone for a while. From this experience, I believe having access to the whole world while being a kid can be very dangerous. Secondly, nowadays the internet also brings some negative standards to our world. Especially social media applications like Instagram and Twitter can create some unwanted effects on children. Even most of the adults are suffering from beauty standards while knowing they are all fake. So, children can have a hard time understanding they are unique in the way they already are and can be upset about the fake norms. Additionally, since parents cannot control what their kids are looking for all the time, apps that contain inappropriate images and thoughts can harm children’s mental health at such early ages. Nevertheless, if parents want their kids to have a cell phone just because of communication, they can restrict the internet and still be in touch with the children. Finally, in my point of view, parents should be very careful with allowing young children to have a cell phone in terms of the arising problems with the world’s current situation.
