Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? When doing research, it is better to use printed materials such as books and articles than it is to use the Internet. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
While some may concur that using printed resources for research is better, I find online resources more reliable and accessible. There are two significant reasons why I feel this way, which I will discuss in the following email.
First and foremost, the internet offers you an opportunity to have access to a wide range of up-to-date information. That is to say that using the internet for research lets you double-check information from various sources and makes your study more reliable. In the case of printed materials, the possibility of grasping old or falsified information is higher, which jeopardizes the trustworthiness of your research. My experience demonstrates the importance of relying only on printed sources of information. Three years ago, I was designated to write an essay for the geometry class, during which I cited an article from a book published one year ago. Then, as it turned out, the information mentioned in the book was outdated, which resulted in my failing the assignment and receiving a failing law grade in the class at the end of the winter semester.
Secondly, the internet is superior to printed books or articles because it is more accessible and resourceful. There are numerous online libraries with peer-reviewed scholarly articles and books with free access. This is considered a crucial matter because many students do not have enough financial resources to afford printed materials which may hinder their academic progress and learning goals. In particular, last semester, when I was assigned to make a presentation for a biology class, I mainly used one of the above-mentioned online libraries, which included a wide range of information about the human body and its evolution. Thanks to that, my financial situation did not disturb me from having an insightful and fact-based presentation, and I received the highest grade in the class.
However, the importance of printed materials should also be underlined, as they cover topics in detail and enable a researcher to go deep by just utilizing one information source.
To sum up, I firmly believe that the internet provides more present-day information and most of the time it is more affordable and handier.
