Question :Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? In the past, young people depended too much on their parents to make decisions for them; today young people are better able to make decisions about their own lives. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

Recently, there has been a ton of debate about whether young people are better able to make decisions without their parents' ideas nowadays. I strongly agree that young people are not dependent on their parents for making life decisions anymore. As our society develops, people become more independent and start feeling that they have to find their way in this modernized world without asking for much help from others. To begin with, in later years, due to the progression in every aspect of peoples' life, both mothers and fathers need to have a job for themselves. In contrast, in the past decades or even years, one person in the family, most of the time the father, was enough to work. But today, only by teaching people to be independent since childhood is it achievable to raise autonomous people. So employee parents try to educate their children better and teach them how to be independent. As a result, they grow self-determining people. For example, according to the research, scientists studied two groups of people. The first group included older people, and the other contained young people who had employee parents since they were young children and they taught to make decisions on their own. Researchers studied their history of life and decision makings. Based on the results, they found out that the group of older adults made serious decisions with the help of their parents in the past and this habit still exists in them. On the other hand, the second group of young people chooses their path based on their own experiences and knowledge. So I again note that these days young men are far better at making their life decisions without others' mindsets. Secondly, generations are developing and changing too fast these days. In the past, people's mindset was more similar to their parent's and even grandparents. However, today we have cultural differences even with our siblings with small age differences. So I decisively state that young people in the past agreed more with their parents, so they easily put their decision-making responsibility on them. On the contrary, nowadays young people are really different. They have a lot in contrast to their old mother and fathers, so they try their best to live their life without the help of people who do not agree with them. I have to admit that my personal experience has profoundly influenced my opinion on this matter. Last year my older brother wanted to accept one of his job admissions. He was really confused, and ultimately he made his decision based on my father's opinion. My brother could not even think without asking our parents' help. But I myself chose my major, I did not even agree with my parents, and I chose this major based on my own interest. Also, making a decision was really easy for me because I do this a lot without any help, but my brother, who is a grown man, faced lots of difficulties due to his dependency on others. In conclusion, I agree that today young people are better able to make decisions than in the past because they're educated better, and due to the cultural differences with parents, they have to learn how to be independent.
