Some people think that children should begin their formal education at a very early age and should spend most of their time on their school studies, Other believe that young children should spend most of their time playing, Compare these two views. Which view do you agree with? Why?
The story behind the biggest social networking platform Facebook has attracted millions of people around the world. The film portrays the founding of Facebook and the resulting lawsuits.
As a student, Mark Zuckerberg, played by Jesse Eisenberg, creates Facemash, a website which allows visitors to rate girls’ attractiveness, after his girlfriend Erica dumped him. After that, he catches Winklevoss twins’ eye who invite him to work on Harvard Connection. At first, he agrees but then he disappears and starts his own social networking website The Facebook together with his friend Eduardo Saverin, who provides financial support at the very start. In the end, Winklevoss brothers sue Zuckerberg for intellectual property theft and Saverin sues him for unfairly diluted shares.
Despite the fact that Zuckerberg made a great contribution to society, taking a flying leap into modern technology and communication, his character in the film is rather controversial. On the one hand, he is shown as an ingenious programmer, but on the other, as a moody and unreliable person. From the screens, we see an insecure ego-driven guy who is jealous of his friends and do not get on well with most people. It seems as if lack of self-confidence and revenge make him set up Facebook. Had he not been a nerd, he might have never taken that step.
In conclusion, although The Social Network provokes mixed emotions, I would highly recommend to watch it, given that it gives insight into the life of one of the world’s most influential personalities of the 21st century.
