A teacher’s ability to relate well with students is more important than excellent knowledge of the subject being taught.

You can't share your knowledge, if you don't have the ability to relate and correctly express yourself with students. In my opinon I totally agree that a teacher's ability to relate well with students is more important than excellent knowledge of the subject. I feel this way for two reasons which I will examine in this essay. Firs of all, it is usual to hear about students saying that the method a specific professor uses to teach their courses is not appropiate or that it is not enough clear when the professor do their explanations. That means that sometimes the professors don't have the ability to share their broad knowledge to the students even though they have excellent knowledge about the subject and they are able to answer any question asked. For example, I used to have a professor who had been teaching a economics class for more than 30 years and without a doubt he was an expert in every single topic taught in that class. Nevertheless he was already old, therefore he was not enough clear in his explanations and didn't understand well the students' questions. So in the end every student didn't know what was going on in the course. Secondly, it is also important when professors actually relate to students in a friendlier way, that is, if they ask about your particular circumstances and try to understand when you are struggling in the course. Aditionally, when you can get the opportunity to meet privately in the office and ask the professor things related to the course, you get a better and personalized explanation and that's more valuable than a professor with excellent knowledge. For instance, last semester I was struggling a lot in my optimisation project but I arranged a meeting with the professor so that he could help me find a mistake in my code and explain me why it was a mistake. Finally he got the mistake and explained me what the mistake was, that's something a unfriendlier professor wouldn't do. In conclusion, I agree that the teacher's ability to relate well with students is more important than excellent knowledge of the subject being taught because some professors are not clear enough in their explanations and there are some doubts or mistakes you cannot check in a classroom full of students.
