Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Governments should spend more money in support of arts than in support of athletics such as state-sponsored Olympic teams. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

Whether the governments should spend more money in support of arts than athletics is a controversial subject. In my opinion, governments should spend more money in order to support athletics. I feel this way for two main reasons which I explore in what follows. To begin with, if governments support athletes, many young people will be encouraged to be athletes. For instance, when I was in high school, one of my friends was excellent at swimming and she won some medals in it. After high school, her parents forced her to study for the university entrance exam in order to have a job. So, she did not have time for swimming and she let her dream. She could have been a great champion if her family had been sure that she can earn money But they were not sure because of the lack of government support. Moreover, people can learn valuable things from sports teams and benefit from exercising. In other words, if governments spend money to build some places like swimming pools and parks, many people will go there and play with their friends and spend their free time. This has plenty of advantages for youngsters ,such as having fun, improving team working, staying in shape, releasing stress and etc. My personal experience is a great example of this, when I was 9 years old, a big gym was built near my house and I used to go there every day in summer. There were some free classes for people and my friends and I had fun together. Also, one of my friends started her tennis classes there and she realized that she is talented in tennis. Now she is a great tennis coach in my city. She would have not been able to understand that she is talented in tennis without those classes. To conclude, it is better for governments to spend money in support of athletics. This is because this will encourage young people to become athletes in the future. Also, spending money to build new places for sports can benefit young people in different ways.
