Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? It is more important for governments to spend money to improve Internet access than to improve public transportation. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
In the contemporary era, the use of the internet is increasing dramatically. Recently, there has been a ton of debate as to spending more money on the internet than public transportation. I strongly believe that the government should invest money in the improvement of the internet rather than commuting systems. I feel this way for two main reasons as follows;1) Online courses and working at the home office are new ways of working and studying. 2) Many people tend to use their own car.
First and foremost, after the pandemic of COVID-19 companies have tried to employ workers from long distances for their online jobs. Moreover, they would work from their home without commuting long distances to the company. Additionally, with the advent of online courses, students can get highly educated by taking part in online classes and completing their projects. Furthermore, they do not need to travel from one place to another in order to be present physically in the classroom. For instance, when I was studying for my master’s, I took a part in a seminar that was held in Texas, US. I bought the ticket and got my visa, but unfortunately, the pandemic of COVID-19 made everything change and the flights were canceled. I could see the lectures online and ask my questions. If there were no internet access, I would miss the seminar. For this reason, investing money in online network systems would be more beneficial.
On the other hand, individuals tend to use their personal vehicles rather than public transportation. Using a personal car is more comfortable and convenient, so many citizens prefer to commute by their automobiles. Although it may have detrimental effects on the environment, its plus points outweigh its drawbacks. Time efficiency and safety are the two advantages of traveling alone by car. As a result, the government should pay for other services to improve public facilities. For example, according to CNN news, 70 percent of citizens never use public transport and only 20 percent of pupils take a bus to their schools. Others use their car or bicycles in the case of students. On the contrary, over 98 percent of society use social media and online programs in their daily life. That is why I think more attention should be paid to internet access than public transport systems.
In a nutshell, a large segment of society needs internet access for doing their daily tasks. I firmly believe that the government should consider these statistics to make decisions about investing funds in different fields of society. Firstly, the use of the internet is more than the public transport services. Secondly, online programs decline the demand for commuting through cities.
