Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? People learn more by watching television than by reading books. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
Both reading and listening discuss the merits of eliminating national park admission fees. While reading supports the idea that the people should be free to visit such locations, the listening extremely disagrees and believes that charging visitors should be continued.
First of all, the writer mentions that since the parks are national, all people around the country have the right to visit them without paying money. On the other hand, the lecturer mentions that the payments are to pay the park employees' salaries and improve park facilities. According to him, if the visitors do not pay those fees, the government will have to increase taxes to cover the park's expenses.
Secondly, the passage claims that the entrance fee discourages tourists from visiting the park, particularly large groups of tourists. In spite of this, the lecturer argues that charging famous national parks like Yellowstone prevents overcrowding. Additionally, this can encourage people to spend their time off in smaller and infamous national parks.
Finally, the reading claims that taking money from visitors is a tedious and time-consuming process. Aside from this, he mentions that it decreases the quality of services in the park, as personnel may not be able to perform their main duties. The lecturer disagrees with the reading. He believes that this can improve the quality of the services and the safety of the park’s individuals. There are several checkpoints where tourists are charged, and the rangers inspect the cars entering. Therefore, if a threat exists, they will detect and stop it.
