Some students prefer classes with frequent discussions between the professor and the students with almost no lectures. Other students prefer classes with many lectures and almost no discussions. Which do you prefer? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
There are many types of techniques that professors can use in classes. Personally, if I were forced to choose one type of class I would prefer classes that have a lot of discussions. I feel this way for two specific reasons, which I will expose in the subsequent paragraphs.
To begin with, making questions during classes is very important to students understanding better the subject taught. Therefore, in classes where there are only lectures students are discouraged to make questions once some professors do not like to be interrupted. On the other hand, professors that promote discussions in classes make students feel more confident and comfortable to make questions, consequently improving their knowledge. This is better demonstrated by my personal experience. During my graduation, I took a lot of classes each with a different type of professor. Thus, I felt that in classes filled with discussions I used to learn easier, and I was right because my grades were better in these classes than in classes only with lectures. I am sure that if all my classes had been filled with discussions, I would have learned more during my studies.
Secondly, all students can learn with questions or opinions made by their co-fellows. This is because, even students that are shy and do not have the courage to make a question learn this way once questions made by other students can be the same that this shy student has. Drowning from my experience, when I was in high school, I was very shy and never made any question to my teacher. Therefore, I always hoped to a friend had the same doubt that I had and made the question to the professor. However, not even this thing occurred, and I stayed in silence and went home without understanding everything taught in class.
In conclusion, I believe that classes fulfilled with discussions bring more benefits to students. That is because, students feel comfortable to make questions during those classes and even shy students can learn with questions made by other students.
