Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? In my country, young people have better lives than their parents had when they were young. Use reasons and examples to support your answer.
There were huge changes in the world since my parents were a child. In my opinion, nowadays the lifestyle and quality of life in Brazil are better than in the past. I feel this way for two specific reasons, which I will expose in detail in the subsequent paragraphs.
To begin with, today the economic power in Brazil is higher once there are more job opportunities available and the minimum salary has increased. In recent years the demand for workers grew due to the fact that many businesses were opened or came from other countries. Consequently, the quality of life has improved since most people can find a job. It is better demonstrated by my personal experience. I live in a small city and my father told me that when he was becoming an adult and looking for a job there were not as many chances as there are today, since there were only small businesses in the city. However, twenty years later there are at least ten huge factories placed here, such as Hyundai, Nissan, Land Rover, and Jaguar. Hence, my brother was able to find a job faster than my father and started his financial life earlier with good earnings, which may guarantee him a comfortable life. I am sure that if people in the past had had same opportunities that those who live nowadays, they definitely have lived better.
Secondly, Brazil's political situation has huge differences from what was lived in the past. When my parents were young Brazil had a dictatorship government. Thus, at that time people could not express their own opinion, especially if it was against the government, once whoever disrespected the rules was punished taken to prison to be tortured or sometimes even killed. However, in my personal experience, I do not know how it is to live in a country like that, I was born after all that happened. My mother tells me that it was hard and sad, since they could not enjoy themselves because they were afraid to be punished. On the other hand, nowadays people are exposing their opinions everywhere to everybody and they are living without thinking about going to prison or being injured because of that. Therefore, it is obvious that nowadays the democracy implemented in our country is far safer than decades ago and young people can have an enjoyable life.
In conclusion, I believe that my parents had a worse life than mine. That is because the economy has improved, many jobs are available, and Democracy is safer than the dictatorship experienced by my parents.
