Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Grades(marks) encourage students to learn. Use specific reasons and examples to support your opniion.

Education has been a vital part since the start of our civilization. It is now common in any education system, to grade children based on exams. This grading system is used to assess the relative capability of a student. I agree with the statement that grades encourage students to learn more. I have based my statement on some examples in the following paragraphs. To start with, grading helps a student learn better by letting him know his extent of knowledge in a certain topic. On basis of the grades, he can now make a detailed analysis of his strengths and weaknesses in a certain topic or its sub-topics. He can then prepare his study plan to get better at what he already isn't and spend relatively less time on what he already is good at. He can then improve his overall grades on the topic. When I was in 10th grade, part tests were conducted in our school on a small portion of the total syllabus as a revision for our final exams. I took them, but I scored low in History. So, then I took my answer sheet and reviewed it, and then I got a visual of what I missed out while studying and what I need to improve on. That helped me a lot, and by the final exams, I was able to score perfectly in the History section. The next reason is that- the children can improve friendly competition in their class. For example, if one student scores higher grades than another, it is quite natural for kids to get jealous of others scoring higher than them, so, now he will be trying to score more than that student. Consequently, he will now study better than before, which of course improves his grades. For example, when I was in kindergarten, I used to get the highest scores, and I often used to notice many other children gradually increasing their scores to catch up to me. Another reason how grades can improve their learning is that, whenever a kid scores the highest grade in a class, the teacher or the students somehow appreciate him. It is quite common in many educational systems. So, this token of appreciation will motivate and encourage the kids to study harder. If a student does not get appreciated, it is a warning sign to him that he should work harder. So, even in this way, grading helps students to encourage their learning process. In conclusion, I think that the grading system is very very helpful not only to the teachers by helping them assess their students, but also to the students to help them design their study plans on basis of their knowledge.
