Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? When teachers assign projects on which students must work together, the students learn much more effectively than when they are asked to work alone on projects.
Since the dawn of civilization, there has been an overwhelming weight of obsession on peoples` minds regarding learning. In this modern era, technology is developing so fast that people could not keep up with that unless they keep increasing their knowledge, so learning became a more subjective issue, especially for teachers and educational institutions. However, people hold different ideas about the learning process in projects that are established for the students. Some people believe that group working is more effective for students, on the other hand, others say that students should complete their assignments lonely to increase their learning during the projects. As far as I am concerned, I am a great supporter of group working. I will elaborate on this in the following essay.
To begin with, competition has always been a motivating factor for being successful. Since the dawn of humanity, people are trying to be superior to each other and this sense comes as a result of competition. If you want to be a winner, you will need much effort, and if you try hard in doing projects, you will learn better. For example, I can remember that when I was a student, I wanted to be the best, so when an assignment was left to us in a group, I tried hard to show my teachers that I am the best and this effort caused my learning to be more efficient. Thus, I believe participating in a group can make the beneficial competition between members that lead to the learning process to be much more effective.
Furthermore, from many pedagogical points of view, students will understand each concept better, if they teach that concept to someone else. Group working is known as a process in which each person in the group work to achieve the same goal, so people in the group help to complete each other to have the best result. For instance, I am a master's student and last month a project is assigned to the class and we are supposed to do it in a group. During the project one of the participants faced a problem in a part of the project that needs knowledge of our major lessons. I studied that part and I taught him that concept he had a problem with, and now I am really strong in that special concept. Therefore, I believe when you teach and try to help others in a particular thing, you learn that thing better.
To wrap up, to the best of my knowledge, I believe that working together for an assignment cause better understanding. First of all, competing in a group forces you to try hard and this action leads you to learn better. Second, being in a group means you are the complement each other, so when you teach other members to solve their problems, you will learn more efficiently.
