Question :Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? People today spend too much time on personal enjoyment—doing things they like to do rather than doing things they should do.
Undeniably, the way people spend their time has changed dramatically during the last decades. While people in the past spent their age mostly on what they needed to do, nowadays it can be observed that people are not as strict as they used to be in the past. Contrary to what many believe, I am of the opinion that nowadays people do not spend too much moment on personal fun. The reasons to substantiate my point will be elaborated on hereunder.
To begin with, it is obvious that the economic pressure has overshadowed every aspect of people's lives; personal fun is not an exception. To be more specific, since people are under severe economic pressure, they work harder to meet their demands leaving no room for personal enjoyment. During the economic downturn, as many societies are facing, people concentrate more on what they need to do not on the things they like to do. An example can make this complex content clearer. It is taken for granted that during past decades, people were happier and more joyful since they spent their time on the personal enjoyment they had, but nowadays people are working twice as hard. When I compare myself to my parents, it can be easily observed that they spent most of their moment and money on enjoying their month, but I am focusing hard on my career because not only do I need the money in such a critical situation, but also I do not have time to spend on such kind of enjoyment.
Furthermore, due to a meteoric rise in a robotic life, people have become more depressed and stressed, ignoring the importance of having a healthy and happy life. To put it in other words, it can be mentioned that since nowadays people's lives became more sedentary, they are experiencing depression way beyond the past. Fear of losing their job and not having moment to spend for themselves are some reasons that made a spike in the number of depressed people. As an illustration, my grandparents were free of stress, and lived in the moment, not concerned about the future; as a result, they could spend more time on their personal amusement. However, there are a lot of people suffering from depression which makes it ridiculous to think about personal fun.
To summarize, considering the above-mentioned points and reasons into account, I believe that today people are less concerned about their personal joy and they do what they need to do. Not only does the harsh economic condition lead people to be like this, but also the role of depression and stressful life cannot be underestimated.
