Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? It is better to use printed material such as books and articles to do research than it is to use the internet. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
I disagree with the statement that it is better to use printed material such as books and articles to do research than it is to use the internet. First of all, the Internet provides information much faster than the printed material. Second of all, Internet users can see the author of articles, so those articles are trusted.
First, the Internet provides information much faster than the printed material. For the purpose of research, new information is necessary. The Internet can meet this fundamental requirement. For example, if some research is being done on Artificial Intelligence, it would be useless to try to find a book. When a book is written and published, the information is already old enough. However, if you look for the same information on the Internet, there is so much newer information available.
When I do research, therefore, I am advised to use as much information as possible on the Internet.
It should be noted that some information on the Internet is not trustworthy. Some information has been fabricated or misleading. However, researchers, including a university student like me, have developed media literacy. In other words, thanks to basic education, researchers know how to find reliable information. For example, if an article is written by an authorized writer, such an article is likely to be trusted. I always check the author when I look for information on my research topic. When information is provided by someone I haven’t heard of, I will dismiss the information. That way, reliability is well maintained on the Internet.
In conclusion, I disagree with the statement that it is better to use printed material such as books and articles to do research than it is to use the internet. First of all, the Internet provides information much faster than the printed material. Second of all, Internet users can see the author of articles, so those articles are trusted.
