Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? At universities and colleges, sports and social activities are just as important as classes and libraries and should receive equal financial support

Several colleges have interdisciplinary activities. These require an important investment that universities make for their students, and the question of its relevance takes part here. I think that leisure time activities such as sports and music are as crucial as academic lectures and related activities. I feel this way because of two reasons that I will explain in this essay. First of all, students need to achieve balance in their routines in order to perform better in exams and draw their attention to lectures. Universities' schedules can not be only organized with academic activities. For example, when I used to be an undergraduate student, my friends and I would spend the whole day and even the whole night revising our lectures notes due to a large academic load. Consequently, I would think that it was a common situation that we had to face, and having rest was not allowed. It just took months to realize that I was having the wrong routine and started noticing that my health was in danger. If it was not for that harmful headache that I suffer one hour before an exam, I would have never raised awareness of this issue and continued sleeping a few hours, and sometimes avoiding meals for saving hours of the day. Second, soft skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership are not only enhanced in coursework or academic projects. Therefore, it is essential for young people to develop activities like sports, painting,or playing music because any recruitment process, academic group,or career experience requires these abilities in professionals. For instance, some of my team partners at university only devote their time to studying for exams and do not take up their hobbies or volunteer in a group for a good cause. That is the very first difference that recruiters look for when evaluating students for internships and careers positions in companies. Evidently, I started joining environmental activisms groups because of that reason, in order to show that I am good academically as I am with my soft skills. In conclusion, investing time and funds in social activities as well as academic ones represents an advantageous difference between students of many universities and colleges. It brings a long-term benefit to a balanced and healthy daily routine, and competitive skills for job recruitment processes.
