Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? When doing research, it is better to use printed materials such as books and articles than it is to use the Internet. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
Most people usually think that the internet has become one of the main tools for researchers to find scientific data, however,it is not completely true. In my personal opinion, I think that printed books and articles are better tools than using the internet. I feel this way mainly for two reasons that I will explain in the following paragraphs.
To begin with, researchers have to look for verified data to start their research. Finding this kind of information is a really hard task to do by using the internet, most part of the data found on the internet can be edited, so there is no way to prove that this data is accurate. On the contrary, printed books are published by a renowned editorial. This company has reviewed each page of the book and has verified the accuracy of the information displayed in it. As a result, scientists can use this printed material as a trustful source of information. My personal experience is a great illustration of this point, when I was in the university, I had to write a paper about igneous rocks. I started my research by looking for information on the internet, there I found a lot of web pages with data about igneous rocks. Unfortunately, all these web pages contained wrong information that were useless for my article. As a consequence, I had to restart my article with data from printed books.
Furthermore, most people usually cannot concentrate when they are using the internet, researchers are not the exception. When researchers start their investigation, they need to be focused on what they are doing. This is hard to achieve when you use the internet because there are a lot of advertisements published on web pages, so you can get easily distracted. For example, when I was writing my thesis, I lost a lot of time looking for music and videos about different topics that were not related to the topic of my thesis. Therefore, I took almost one year to finish it
In conclusion, I strongly believe that printed materials are more efficient tools for researchers. This is because information found in printed materials are more reliable and using the internet can be an obstacle to focus in your research.
