The reading and the lecture both are about the Yellowstone supervolcano. The author of the reading presents three theories that indicate supervolcano is going to brust, but the lecturer disputes these theories one by one. First of all, the author argues that the scholars at the University of Utah found that the amount of magma beneath the volcano is large, which indicates that it is going to explode soon. The lecture casts doubt on this argument. He claims that it does not shows the indication of brust, since only two percent magma are in molten state and others is in solid form. Furthermore, he ays that the scientists are not predicting that it is going to erupt fast, they are studying it by using advanced technology. Secondly, the author believes that the height of Yellowstone is increasing in a fast rate than past. Moreover, he mentions that the rising is the consequence of fglow of magma into the reservoir. Also, he notices that the rising of plateau is three times that of past. The lecturer rebuts this claim by raising the point that the movement of the magma is not the sign of eruption, since the rise and fall of plateau is phenomenon. Furthermore, he points that the rising and falling of the plateau is called breathing of volcanic activity. Finally, the writer suggests that the seismic waves have been increasing which shows that it ould be going to explode. He posits that the number of earthquakes rises in recent years, and it would come stronger earthquake and volcano might erupt. The lecturer, on the other hand, refutes on this by bringing the point that there is no relation between volcanic eruptions and earthquakes. He notes that minor earthquakes do not indicate bigger earthquakes upcoming, but it shows that energy is releasing and the possibility of coming high magnitude earthquake is less.
