the reading and the lecture are both about the "let it burn" policy which said that forest fires would burn themselves out quickly, without causing much damage. however, the reading criticizes this policy by focusing on its destructive function after the forest fire in Yellowstone, the lecturer disputes this idea by counting the benefits of this forest fire and its creative role : firstly, according to the reading, these enormous fires taking place in Yellowstone destroy the native plants in this area and everything turns out to black and scorched so this event has tremendous damage to the park's trees. nevertheless, the professor believes that in this way new plants and seeds have the opportunity to be exposed to sunlight and open unshaded places to germinate and grow that do not have before, as a result, new habitats and diverse vegetation will be formed. secondly, the author of the reading states that many animals could not survive, and those species being able to escape do not have habitats to return, moreover it leads to disruption of food chains. however, the lecturer disagrees and explains the formation of new habitats is now suited to new species such as rabbits and hares so these animals attract new predators. indeed, not only new food chains are arising but also the previous animals are recovering. finally, the passage claims that these tremendous forest fires causing a destructive effect on tourist attractions for Yellowstone park and its local business so its economy was damaged. on the other hand, the woman argues that if the forest fire occurs every year, the tourist attractions would be suffered but this event barely take places under special circumstances and after that, the Yellowstone park again has a lot tourist every year and it has not seen such a forest fire!
