The most effective way for the government to conserve energy is to increase the price of gasoline and electricity. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
Energy conservation has become a trending topic these days. Some people might think that the most effective way for the government to conserve energy is to increase the price of gasoline and electricity, which motivates people not to easily purchase them. I, however, totally disagree with the statement that increasing the cost of gasoline and electricity is the most effective way for the government to conserve energy for two reasons. Firstly, requisitions for gasoline and electricity do not cease. Secondly, government can think of another method in conserving energy. Most of all, people consistently need for gasoline. It is commonly observed that if government increases the price of gasoline, people will complain about a necessary source. To be more specific, Harvard University published a result of research about consequences of increasing the cost of gasoline. 80 percent of people, usually workers, used their own car to commute while other 20 percent of people took transportations. However, going to a distant place or company, the majority of people unconditionally needed their own cars. As the government increased the price of gasoline, workers did not have enough money to do a living, which implies that they spent twice as much as they did last year. Likewise, the government should not increase the price of gasoline as it is a trivial problem. Furthermore, increasing the price of electricity can generate inflation pressure. The more the government increases the cost of electricity the more the products become expensive. In detail, KEPCO has frozen electricity bills. Applying the fuel cost linkage system, it had to raise the cost of electricity, but the government stepped up to prevent the price hike for the Korean government to block the increasing price of electricity , which causes inflation pressure. As the government did not increase the price of electricity, inflation did not occur even if some problems happen. To summarize my point, there are no reasons to oppose that increasing the cost of gasoline and electricity is not the most effective way for the government to conserve energy for two reasons I have mentioned up above.
