The reading and the lecture are both about the famous novelist's Jane Austen image. The author of the reading feels that there are three possible explanations for image and portrait are Austen image. The lecture challenges the claims made by the author. In his opinion, those images have not as strong proof as an Austen image. To begin with, the author argues that few decades after the death her family give permission to use her portraits with letters. In the article, it is mentioned that after some time later Austen family also claims, that portrait is an Austen. This specific argument is challenged by the lecture. He says that those portraits are found after 70 years of her death, so it could be her portrait. Secondly, the writer suggests that portrait nearly similar to the Austen image sketch by Cassandra's, which was painted during the adult. In addition to this, body parts are also similar to her teenage picture. The lecture, however,rebuts this by mentioning that Austen family has large member, so they those sketch might be the other member's picture such as a cousin, thus they look similar to each other. Finally, the author posits that there is no evidence of the age of the painting and the style of the painting is similar to the Ozias Humphrey, who was a famous painter at that time, so he draws her picture. In contrast, the lecture says that this picture picture can't determine that picture is an Austen picture because at that time this painter was not selling the painting. He sells the painting 27 years later of her death.
